When it comes to spray painting, there are a lot of factors to consider before you begin and if you want a high-quality finish then temperature control is crucial. Just a small change in temperature could affect the atomisation and flow of your paint. Below, we’ve explained some of the reasons that it’s important to keep a close eye on the temperature when spray painting:
What Happens if it’s Too Cold?
A lot of liquids like syrup, honey, oil and peanut butter will become thicker in colder temperatures. Spray paint is pretty much the same so when it’s too cold the paint will thicken and, depending on how cold it is, will perhaps even become congealed. This means that the paint will not flow properly out of the sprayer, you’ll get uneven coverage and the entire paint job is likely to take up much more of your time.
What Happens if it’s Too Hot?
When the temperature is too high it has pretty much the opposite effect of a cold environment. The paint thins and flows too easily. This means you will use too much paint causing wastage and making a bigger mess. Also, once the heat reaches a certain level, the paint will actually start to dry before it reaches the surface of the object you are painting which will result in a dry, uneven look with a peeling surface.
How can I Control the Temperature?
If you aren’t using a booth which allows you to control the temperature, then ensure that you aren’t spraying in weather which is particularly hot or humid. The ideal temperature for spray painting is between 18℃ and 25℃. Avoid painting in direct sunlight or anywhere there is likely to be moisture. If possible, humidity levels between 40%-50% will be perfect for spray painting.
Spray Painting Booths
At APT Spray Painting, we use a spray painting booth which is one of the most effective ways to control the temperature when spray painting. Our booth allows for precise heat and humidity settings and also means that you don’t have to factor in weather conditions. A booth will create the optimal environment for smooth, even and fast-drying spray painting onto any product. Additionally, our booth ensures that dust can’t stick to the products we paint and prevents them from becoming marked whilst also getting rid of any solvent fumes.
At APT Spray Painting, we service a large range of commercial and industrial businesses. We offer a professional service and never compromise on quality. If you would like to learn more about how we can help you or your business, get in touch with us today!
