New Waterfront Development for Brisbane's Eagle Street Pier

New Waterfront Development for Brisbane’s Eagle Street Pier
October 20, 2022 APT Spray Painting

Brisbane is home to many world-class urban waterfront developments including South Bank Parklands, Howard Smith Wharves and Northshore. Now, the latest to grace our river city is the 2.1 billion-dollar transformation of Eagle Street Pier in Brisbane’s CBD.

Waterfront Brisbane by Dexus is set to deliver a premium business and leisure destination that will enhance the daily experience of inner-city residents and visitors. The revitalisation of the 30 year-old Eagle St Pier will unlock considerable potential, bringing a vibrant new public space that will ensure the longevity of dining, entertainment and spectacular riverside experiences for future generations.

Eagle Street Pier is an iconic waterfront precinct in Brisbane

The development plan was approved by Brisbane City Council back in 2020 and will align as part of their River’s Edge Strategy to improve access and activity alongside the inner-city reaches of the Brisbane River. The strategy guides the enhancement of the river’s recreational and economic development opportunities over the next 10 years.

As part of the approval, The Waterfront Brisbane project will include two office towers, with the completion of the first North tower expected to be finalised in 2027. An estimated 9000 square metres of public space, as well as expansive landscaping and shaded terraces will form the greater part of the precinct.

There will be a new Riverwalk completed in 2024, allowing more room for pedestrians and cyclists, and enhancing connectivity to the Botanic Gardens Riverwalk upgrade and the planned Kangaroo Point Green Bridge. Public transport goers will be able to access the precinct by river taxis, and a new CityCat terminal which will contribute to the riverfront ambiance.

The heritage-listed Naldham House will undergo renovation, with plans to retain it as an integral part of Waterfront Brisbane. The building celebrates the heritage of the site as a key gateway to the city and centre for trade over the past 150 years, recognising the site’s history as the early wharves and produce markets for Brisbane. The plans provide Naldham House with a view to the river and will be able to be seen from the Riverwalk.

Waterfront Brisbane projects the precinct will have a positive impact on the local economy and small businesses, estimating over 1000 construction jobs over the next decade and 900 operational support jobs once construction is completed.
